Before children are due to start school, Reception Teachers from the local schools will arrange to visit the nursery and meet the children who will be moving into their class.
Osborne House Community Nursery will make every effort for these visits to take place and chase up any schools that haven’t been in contact.
In addition to this, the school may have their own procedures for supporting children through this transition which may include, inviting children and mother/father/carer to visit the school or arranging for a Teacher to make a home visit, prior to their start date. This is usually organised without the involvement of the nursery.
We plan a Transition Event/Celebration and a variety of activities focused upon the transition to school that aim to help prepare children for the transition and also gives them an opportunity to talk about their experiences alongside their peers. Each child and their mother/father/carer are invited to the Transition Celebration event.
The child’s Key Person will complete a School Summary Transition Form.
This form provides important information for the school, focused upon the child’s current stages of development, their interests and any additional needs.
The document will be shared with mothers/fathers/carers and they will be asked to contribute their views on this form, as will the child.
This form will be handed over to the child’s new school, by the end of term prior to the child starting.
The child’s development file will be handed to the mother/father/carer and it is recommended that they also share this with the school.

Staff at Osborne House are approachable, open and friendly. Most importantly they have formed a great relationship with our daughter too. Crucially, during the recent difficult circumstances of the pandemic, we have been well informed and kept up to date with safeguarding and rollout of health and safety practices. Would happily recommend it without any doubt.
Having had a baby during the pandemic we were left in the situation of trying to pick a nursery without being able to tour any. From the outset the communications with Osborne House Community Nursery have been reassuring, informative and friendly.
Our boys always come home from nursery seeming really happy and chatty after a fun filled day! The staff are so lovely and they use the Tapestry App so we get to see great photos and descriptions of their development and what they get up to. We chose Osborne House because it’s smaller than some other nurseries and we got a lovely feel about the place when we initially looked round.
